AJ Scherkenbach was born and raised in San Diego, CA. Grew up in bi-cultural family (Mexican Mother and American Father) and a very nerdy neighborhood that appreciated everything comics (from Spider-Man to Robotech). At 19-years-old he joined the Army, in an effort to escape his own self-destructive nature.  AJ found a home, himself, and a love of coffee as he rose through the ranks and traveled the world. After 20 years (with five deployments and extreme hair loss) he decided to retire his Blue Cord and Black Beret to test the waters of the civilian life. AJ returned to his hometown to pursue creating comic books full time as a writer and letterer. Sweet Lullaby is his first collaboration with J. Briscoe Allison, which Darby Pop humanely agreed to publish.

• 2000 AJ’s smart and beautiful daughter was born.
• 2015 he retired as a Sergeant First Class from the US Army.
• 2016 AJ graduated from Platt College of San Diego with an AA in Graphic Design.
